The 2023 Laureate is designing the expansion of the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.

Heralded for his “subtle yet powerful, subdued yet elegant” work, the 52^nd Pritzker laureate is the first British architect to be awarded the prize since Richard Rogers in 2007.

Triumphing over shortlisted proposals from firms including SANAA, Herzog & de Meuron, and Adjaye Associates, the Chipperfield revamp extends the existing museum to the street and incorporates a rooftop park. 

Off limits to the public for 500 years, a St. Mark’s Square landmark is converted by David Chipperfield Architects into offices, galleries, and event spaces.

As the museum celebrates its fiftieth anniversary, the second phase of renovations draws to a close.

When the United States’ London embassy moves across town from Mayfair to Nine Elms in 2017, it will leave behind a monumental home: the Eero Saarinen–designed Chancery Building.
