Lunch & LearnKIP 300- Embodied Carbon and the Envelope
Learning Objectives
- Design and specify enclosure systems that utilize low embodied carbon materials for structure, insulation and finishes strategically to improve building performance
- Learn the basic concepts of what and LCA is, the areas that are included and the resulting data that feeds the creations of EPDs
- Assess traditional and alternative façade and building envelope materials for their embodied carbon impact looking at the assembly and specifically the insulation
- To demonstrate and quantify the embodied carbon impacts of material selection, calculated using whole-building life cycle assessment (LCA)

CE Session Architecture Can Be More: Design Excellence Through Innovation, Sustainability, and Equity
What does design excellence mean? How do we create impactful buildings that embrace equity and sustainability as integral parts of the design process? Chandra Robinson, Principal at LEVER Architecture, will share how LEVER's architectural practice has evolved and how innovation in mass timber has led to equitable outcomes. She will explore these ideas through case studies of their work in Portland, Oregon, and how they will translate to LEVER’s newest endeavor in Portland, ME - the Portland Museum of Art campus expansion and unification project.
